William Chafatelli
Busted by Principal

Okay Girls,

Any of you remember the time we tried to skip out of school.  Sue A. had her mother's station wagon.  We're all in car about to pull out of the parking lot, suddenly we noticed the Principal cruising the parking lot.  We all hit the floor and waited for him to leave.  Suddenly we heard a knock at the window.  Guess who?????  We all ended up sitting in the Principal's office lined up on the floor along the glass window for all to see.  How embarrassing.  JG

Say hi to Mom

Remember the school newspaper "Campus Courier"??? I would go to the little outcove before you climb the stairs to the cafeteria. I would pretend that there was a camera in the corner up near the ceiling. I would roll the newspaper up and find a sophmore or two and had them say hi to mom and it went from there. OMG some did!! At least those kids had a good sense of humor. I loved doing it. I know that it sounds a bit corny but that was one of my ways to enjoy having fun with everyone not just with our senior class.

Where are Mr. Lawsons Shoes?

It was our junior year. I cant remember much. Not even sure who was in our class. I do recall that Kevin Cathcart, Rick Lederman and Sandy DiCola were there. Mr. Lawson had a habit of taking off his shoes during class. One afternoon he had done so and went out into the hall to speak to another teacher. We acted quickly and placed his shoes up ontop of the flourescent light fixtures. When he realized they were gone he went ballistic. He spent the rest of the period looking for them We made him sweat it out till the end class bell rang them pointed heaven bound.

Does anyone remember this?

Crazy days

Where do i begin? it's now FORTY YEARS which is 2 generations ago and more than half a lifetime ago. What a long strange trip it's been ! what i remember most is some of the funny things that people said in class, that i can remember to this day! Like junior year i walk into Bob Orbans history class and he calls my name and instantly recognizes my last name because my brother ED (ebhs '66) had him and they used to go at it all the time, not malicously but my brother gave as good as he got. So Orban calls my name and says " are you ed meagher's brother, and i replied yes i am and Orban says YOUR GONNA GET A  "D". I remember on one of his tests forgetting to write an essay and he wrote on my paper "YOU FORGOT YOUR ESSAY MEATHEAD !" He used that term long before Archie Bunker used it to describe his son in law! Pete Walling was in that class also what a riot he was, he used to turn around when report cards were graded and he used to say to the late Barry Lang, "hey Lang let me see your report card i need a few laughs".One time pete asks Orban if he was going to come watch the soccer game and he told him no, and gave the excuse that he had better things to do like get his beauty sleep, to which Walling replied"looks like you don't get too much" and Orban said "there goes your D. I can remember sitting in Barbara Sofios English class on cold december morning and we have a substuite teacher. I'm seated in the second row from the window and Steve Swansen is next to my left and Doug Williams is behind him, we' re given a writing assignment and Doug keeps crumpling the paper up and walking it up to drop it in the waste basket, now this goes on about 4 or five times. Finally he says "i need to get this right because i'm a writer" in a split second steve swansen cracks "He's a writer all right.....on the bathroom walls" and we had about 30 people in the class laughing so hard i'll bet we were heard down the end of the hall ! I have met Some quick and witty people in my life time but steve swansen was maybe the quickest! Now during senior year in Business law class it was a 7th peroid class, Paul (lurch) Novak was the teacher, i liked him my brother had had him in high school too and naturally he busted my chops about my brother, well anyway an announcement comes over the loud speaker  at about 2:15, "the ski club bus will be leaving in 15 minutes all ski club members please report to the bus now.Joe Colasurdo gets up and tells Novak that he is going on the ski trip and from the back of the room Jack Galuchi yells out "SKI !, he can't even sleigh ride" Joe could not get out of there fast enough! So again you had 30 people in the class laughing like hell. From senior year i remember the Football team beating south river 39-0,and before the game we had a keg at danny yorios house  so we were BUZZING TO SAY THE LEAST! I also remember the Basketball game where they beat new brunswick 74-56 and Gary Brokaw had 47 of their 56 points ! That was so enjoyable to watch EB KICK THEIR ASSES ! because they basically owned us.I also remember the Sr variety show and the 'VARSITY CLUB CHOURS" guys came out on stage and sang the schaffer gingle, that was funny, or Louie Moranos imitation of elvis presley ! that was a riot! or Jill Gruver with lights attached to her doing Gypsy rose lee!.One of the unique things i witnessed was standing near the senior door,(remember that) and walking right buy are Diane Sierotko and Tony Sgroi who were going together then and no more than maybe 2 feet to my right Joe Willis yells out "hey Tony, who's that beautiful girl you're with" well he later found out because he's married to her ! how often do you get to witness the beginning of a relationship ! I also remember the keg softball game behind hammerskhold school and either brian strom or paul jetter bangs the car into the back of the school, i laughed like hell. After i left EB and went to Middlesex county college i had in three of my classes Laura Chelli, Bev mahr and Judy Rogers, who was a beautiful blonde, off the Charts ! Who was married to Jimmy Young. suffice to say i had PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR THOSE CLASSES !  I used to kid Bev Mahr telling her "bev if you married me you would still be beverley Mahr (are last names are prounced  the same like (Marr). What a looker she was! Now i can't recall how much i learned in those classes because i was too busy as they say "eyeing the cheese" I did get to know laura chelli, and though she was nice and could be really funny! I had a great time in high school especially my senior year and have some great memories, I have often thought to myself, would i do EBHS again, and after thinking about it, i came to the answer i would do it over again in a NY minute ! After all those are some of the most fun and carefree days in anyone's life.

Joseph Meagher
English essay

I remember being in Mr. King's English class (not the history Mr. King) and one day we had a substitute that gave us an assignment to write an essay in class. One student, Robin Long, was absent. Someone (I don't remember who) convinced everyone to write Robin Long's name on their papers instead of their own. We all followed along. When Mr. King came back he gave everyone Fs, except for Robin Long, who got about 30 As.

Lunchroom Trays

Just wondering how many of you remember using the lunchroom trays to "sled" down the hill out in front of the school.  All was good until you hit that killer bump down at the bottom where you would see other trays all busted up, LOL!
